China's flow battery industry is primarily dominated by vanadium redox flow batteries, including iron-chromium flow batteries, zinc-iron flow batteries, and aqueous organic flow batteries. In the flow battery energy storage projects that were tendered and implemented in 2024, the capacity of vanadium redox flow battery projects reached 973.45 MW/4071.35 MWh, with several GWh-scale projects, totaling over 3.485 billion yuan in winning bids, accounting for 96.67% of the total capacity. Iron-chromium flow battery energy storage projects amounted to 40 MW/80 MWh, while zinc-iron flow battery energy storage projects reached 20 MW/40 MWh, and aqueous organic flow battery energy storage projects were 5.2 MW/20.4 MWh. From January to May this year, long-duration energy storage projects with durations of 4 hours or more reached 1.18 GW/5.23 GWh, indicating a favorable development trend for the industry. It is understood that China's flow battery industry has basically established an agglomerative development pattern. A 'Dalian-Liaoyang-Shenyang' flow battery industrial belt led by technology and leading companies has been formed, along with a Beijing-Hebei industrial hub integrating resources and technology, an eastern coastal industrial cluster driven by dual forces of research and manufacturing, a Sichuan manufacturing base supported by resources and driven by technology, and an industrial system co-developing with cities and resources. The industry matrix includes leading enterprises such as Dalian Rongke Power Storage Technology Development Co., Ltd., Shanghai Electric Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., Sichuan Weili Energy Co., Ltd., Flow Battery Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Xingchen New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Dalishi Energy Storage Technology Hubei Co., Ltd., Suqian Times Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., Sichuan Development XinXin Vanadium Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Suzhou Kerun New Materials Co., Ltd., Liaoning Jingu Carbon Material Co., Ltd., and Jiangyou Runsheng Graphite Felt Co., Ltd., which are continuously enhancing their international competitiveness. Sichuan's flow battery industry has developed a technology-driven trend supported by abundant resources and has become a world-class manufacturing base.
